Filipino nurses are among the best in the world. After all, the Philippines is the , as in the case of seafarers.

In the last five years, several Filipinos have received awards from the Royal Family, and national and international bodies for their services to nursing and the community.  Many of them have also been awarded back home in the Philippines by their colleges or universities and their local government units.

Brenda Deocampo, 2023 – Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), acute medicine ward manager .

May Parsons, 2022 – George Cross Medal on behalf of the NHS. May administered the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine. She received the award for NHS England staff   The George Cross medal is the UK’s highest honour for civilian gallantry and it was only the third time in British history that it was awarded to an organisation for an act of great heroism.

Susie Lagrata, 2022 – Innovations in Your Specialty Award, Royal College of Nursing, for treatment centre in Europe.

Robert Vicente, 2022 – Greener Nursing Practice Award, Royal College of Nursing, for in his ward, and reducing its disposable glove use count by 36,500 over a four-month period.

Ediscyll Lorusso, 2022 – National Lifetime Achievement Award, Our Health Heroes Awards, for her . 

Dennis Singson, 2022 – International Community Nurse of the Year Award, The Queens Nursing Institute, for advancing mental health in the community. In 2018, he also won the Clinical Excellence Award for Nursing. 

Marc Rodriguera, 2022 – International Community Nurse of the Year Award, The Queens Nursing Institute, for harnessing technology for community care.

Wilfredo Manuel, 2022 – Renal Nurse of the Year, British Journal of Nursing Awards, that has improved patient wait times and provided more training for renal staff. 

Leo Andrew Almerol, 2022 – Vascular Access Nurse of the Year, British Journal of Nursing Awards, at Imperial College London.

Francis Michael Fernando, 2022 – Finalist, Aster Guardians Global Nursing Awards, for leading the call to protect Filipino nurses at the height of the Covid pandemic and for founding the Filipino Nurses Association UK. Also in 2022, he was named in health by the Health Service Journal. In 2021, , National Health and Care BAME Awards.

Ariel Lanada, 2021 – Nurse of the Year, National Health and Care BAME Awards, .

April Ann Montoya, 2021 – Overseas Nurse of the Year, Nursing Times, in her trust. 

Charito Romano, 2021 – British Empire Medal (BEM), for leading the nursing and care team to keep colleagues and care home residents safe at the peak of Covid.

Xyza Macutay Malloch, 2021 – British Empire Medal (BEM),  for throughout the pandemic as care home manager.

Minerva Klepacz, 2020 – British Empire Medal (BEM), for leading the risk assessment for ethnic minority staff at her hospital during Covid.

Joy Montalba Ongcachuy, 2018 – British Empire Medal (BEM), for treating victims of the 2017 London terror attack.
